Path to Speech Therapy
What is the process?
-
Parents and/or teachers alert the speech-language pathologist of a potential area of need.
-
Speech/language screening is administered.
-
If the student fails the screening, a classroom intervention plan is developed and implemented by the teacher
-
Progress is monitored for a series of weeks.
-
A lack of progress after various interventions and increasing intensity will warrant a referral for a speech therapy evaluation.
-
The Admissions and Release Committe (ARC) meets together. This includes the parent, teacher, speech-language pathologist, and chairperson.
-
ARC decides if a speech therapy evaluation will be conducted.
-
If so, the evaluation will be planned and conducted.
-
ARC meets again to discuss the evaluation and to determine if the student requires speech therapy services.
